Actions and Results

Participate in strategic planning and design sessions with product management, engineering management, architects, operations and development team leads
Manage a small architecture team
Drive decision-making processes to consensus and ensure that steps are taken to actual implementation of key architecture decisions
Lead the effort to evolve a long term, scalable architecture by working with the development, database and operations teams
Articulate the engineering architecture and promote the company's technology vision and strategy to both technical and non-technical audiences
Oversee technology decisions as they are introduced into the development and operational environments
Communicate across the senior management team on technology and technology decisions
Help drive our adoption of Agile & Scrum and assist in building a high performing agile team

Skills and Experience

Required:

B.S./M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
20+ years experience in development organizations, with at least 5 years as a lead architect or CTO in a small to medium technology company
Experience building highly scalable websites and web-based applications
In depth knowledge of Java and J2EE and web-based applications
Ability to articulate engineering design strategies related to scalability, performance, security, usability and development platforms
Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as good interpersonal skills and organizational skills
Understanding of the operational disciplines to run a 24x7 system
Ability and interest to closely collaborate with a wide-range of individuals to understand business needs and requirements and to understand how these can be met using a variety of different technologies

Skills and Experience

Desired:

Direct experience with email technologies and mail systems
Familiarity with any of the following: Ajax, Javascript, Flex, Web Services, RSS, SEO
Experience with high-volume consumer or small-business website
Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies
Experience with DB2 and Websphere
